A microstereolithography printer is a type of additive manufacturing system that builds very small, highly detailed 3D structures by curing a liquid photopolymer resin into solid material. It typically uses light—often a focused laser or a patterned light source—to selectively solidify the resin layer by layer (or in fine steps) with micrometer-scale precision. Because the process relies on photopolymerization, the printer’s performance depends on factors such as resin chemistry, light wavelength, exposure time, and optical resolution. These printers are commonly used for microfluidic devices, biomedical research prototypes, dental and hearing-aid related components (depending on resin and regulations), and other applications requiring fine feature resolution.

How it works (high level)
In general, the printer spreads a thin layer of resin, then uses controlled illumination to cure only the desired regions. After curing, the build platform moves to form the next layer, and the process repeats until the object is complete. Some systems use scanning optics (laser-based) while others use masks or projection to cure patterns more quickly.
